Copying Guides Between Properties

February 1, 2026 19 views Barry Murphy
Save time by copying guide content and structure from existing properties or the demo template to new properties.

When you have multiple properties, you do not need to build each guide from scratch. BetterSTR allows you to copy guides between properties, saving significant time while maintaining consistency across your portfolio.

When to Copy Guides

Copying guides is ideal when:

  • You have a new property and want to start with an existing template
  • Properties share similar amenities, house rules, or local recommendations
  • You want consistent branding across multiple properties
  • You are expanding your portfolio quickly

Copy Options

When you create a guide for a property that does not have one, you will see a modal with these options:

1. Create New Blank Guide

Start with an empty guide and build from scratch. Best for properties that are significantly different from your others.

2. Copy Demo Data

Start with BetterSTR sample content that demonstrates features and best practices. The demo includes:

  • Example menu structure
  • Sample content sections
  • Placeholder images
  • Feature demonstrations

This is a great option for new users learning the platform.

3. Copy from TouchStay

If you are migrating from TouchStay, you can import your existing guide content.

4. Copy from Existing Guide

Copy the structure and content from one of your existing BetterSTR guides. This copies:

  • All menu items and hierarchy
  • Content for each page
  • Images and media
  • Icons and display settings

How to Copy a Guide

Step 1: Select the Property

  1. Go to Properties
  2. Find a property without a guide
  3. Click Create Guide from the action menu

Step 2: Choose Copy Source

  1. The copy modal will appear
  2. Select Copy from Existing Guide
  3. Browse or search your available guides
  4. Click on the guide you want to copy

Step 3: Select Languages

If your source guide has translations, you can choose:

  • All Languages - Copy the original plus all translations
  • Single Language - Copy only a specific language version

Step 4: Wait for Copy

The system will:

  1. Copy all pages and content
  2. Maintain the menu hierarchy
  3. Copy associated images
  4. Preserve icons and display settings

The page will reload when complete.

After Copying

Once copied, customize the guide for the new property:

Update Property-Specific Content

  • WiFi credentials
  • Check-in instructions
  • Property address and directions
  • Parking information
  • Access codes

Adjust Local Recommendations

  • Nearby restaurants (if different location)
  • Local attractions
  • Emergency contacts
  • Map locations

Update Images

  • Property photos
  • Room images
  • Appliance photos
Pro Tip: Use shortcodes like {{wifi_name}}, {{wifi_password}}, and {{property_name}} in your template guide. These will automatically display the correct values for each property!

Copying to Multiple Properties

To apply the same guide to many properties:

  1. Create your template guide on one property
  2. For each new property, use Copy from Existing Guide
  3. Make property-specific customizations

Best Practices

Create a Master Template

Consider creating a template property that serves as your master guide. Include:

  • Standard sections (House Rules, Check-in, Amenities)
  • Shortcodes for dynamic content
  • Placeholder text for property-specific info
  • Your branding elements

Use Shortcodes Liberally

The more you use shortcodes, the less you need to customize after copying:

  • {{property_name}} - Property name
  • {{check_in_time}} - Check-in time
  • {{check_out_time}} - Check-out time
  • {{wifi_name}} - WiFi network
  • {{wifi_password}} - WiFi password

Standardize Your Structure

Keep consistent menu structures across properties. This makes updates easier and provides a familiar experience for returning guests.
