📺 BetterSTR TV App

The BetterSTR TV app runs on the in-room television or streaming device a host provides for guests. To deliver the correct guidebook, Wi-Fi details and entertainment for each property, the app sends a small amount of data to our servers over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection:

  • Device identifier: a per-device ID (derived from the Android device identifier) and the device's network (MAC) address. This is used to link the device to the host's account and property, so the right property guidebook and settings are shown, and so the host can manage the device from their dashboard. It is sent on each periodic check-in.
  • Installed apps: the list of launchable apps on the device, so the host can choose which appear as tiles on the home screen.
  • App usage activity (optional): when the host enables "app usage insights", the app records which apps and titles a guest opens (and parental-PIN unlock/fail events) so the host can understand what guests enjoy. The host can turn this off.
  • Diagnostics: basic device health (memory, processor load, uptime, app version, permission status) and, when support troubleshooting is enabled, device logs — used to keep devices running and resolve issues.

This information is collected by BetterSTR to operate the service and is not sold or shared with advertising or marketing partners. Guest stay details (such as a first name or check-in/out time shown on screen) are sent to the device for display and are not retained on the device after an outage or restart.
