Connect your Mews hotel to BetterSTR with the access token from the BetterSTR integration in Mews Marketplace. Every room becomes its own BetterSTR property, so each guest gets a personal digital guidebook and each room’s TV welcomes its own guest. BetterSTR is a certified Mews Marketplace partner.
Before you start
- You need a Mews login that can open Marketplace and manage integrations for your property.
- A BetterSTR account connects one Mews hotel. If you run several hotels, connect each one to its own BetterSTR account. Portfolio (multi-property) tokens aren’t supported yet.
- BetterSTR can only be connected to one PMS at a time. If you’re on another integration, disconnect it first.
Step 1: Connect BetterSTR in Mews Marketplace
- In Mews Operations, open Marketplace.
- Search for BetterSTR and connect it to your property.
- Open the BetterSTR integration’s settings and copy its access token. It is two long codes joined by a hyphen.
The access token lets BetterSTR read your rooms and reservations. It isn’t your Mews password. If you can’t see the token, email support@betterstr.com: Mews also sends it to us when you connect, and we can match it to your account.
Step 2: Paste it into BetterSTR
- In BetterSTR, go to Integrations → Mews.
- Paste the token into Mews access token.
- Optional: tick Save each guest’s guide link as a note on their Mews reservation (see below). You can change this later.
- Click Connect Mews. BetterSTR checks the token with Mews before saving anything.
Step 3: Sync your rooms and switch them on
- Click Sync Properties. Your hotel and its rooms appear over the next few minutes, with room number, room type, floor and maximum occupancy.
- Each room in Mews is its own BetterSTR property, so the TV in Room 214 shows the guest staying in Room 214. Only real rooms come across: parking spaces, meeting rooms, desks and offices are skipped, and beds inside a dorm room are not separate properties.
- New rooms start switched off, so a large hotel doesn’t switch on hundreds of properties at once. Turn on the rooms that have a TV or need a guide, then click Update Selected. Their current and upcoming reservations sync straight away.
You’ll also see a property named after your hotel. It holds reservations that don’t have a room yet; they move to their room as soon as Mews assigns one, and they follow the guest if you move them to another room. It can be switched off but not deleted.
Times, timezone and WiFi
Check-in and check-out times come from your Mews service, and each reservation’s own arrival and departure times win. Your hotel’s timezone comes from Mews too, so daylight saving is handled automatically. You can still set your own times on each property, or for every property in Property Defaults.
Mews doesn’t share WiFi details. Enter your WiFi name and password once in BetterSTR to power the WiFi QR code. Syncs never overwrite them.
How quickly changes arrive
Mews tells BetterSTR about new and changed reservations, guest details and room changes, usually within a few minutes. BetterSTR also checks for anything missed every 10 minutes, and re-reads your hotel and room list once a day. To pull changes in straight away, click Sync Reservations or Sync Properties on the Mews page.
What comes across from Mews
- Reservations for your accommodation services (not parking or spa bookings) with their status, confirmation number, arrival and departure times, adults and children, and booking channel. Confirmed, checked-in and checked-out stays are active; cancelled reservations stop their scheduled guide messages.
- Room type: each reservation shows the category the guest booked.
- Guest name, email, phone, language and nationality from the guest on the reservation, or the booker. BetterSTR doesn’t store card details, ID documents, birth dates or home addresses.
- Door PINs: when your lock system stores room PIN codes in Mews, the guest’s PIN becomes their door code.
The guide link on the Mews reservation
Guests get their guide link by your BetterSTR email and SMS rules. If you switch on the option on the Mews page, BetterSTR also adds one note to each confirmed, upcoming reservation of a switched-on room, starting BetterSTR guest guide:, so front-desk staff can share the link. The note is updated if the link changes and never duplicated, and your other notes are left alone. It’s off until you turn it on.
Troubleshooting
“That doesn’t look like a Mews access token.” The token was copied incompletely. Copy it again from the BetterSTR integration in Mews Marketplace: it is two long codes joined by a hyphen.
“That is a portfolio access token covering several hotels.” Connect each hotel with its own token, each to its own BetterSTR account.
“That token belongs to a different Mews hotel.” You’re connected to one hotel and pasted another hotel’s token. Disconnect Mews first (this removes the synced rooms and reservations), then connect the other hotel.
“This Mews hotel is already connected to another BetterSTR account.” Each hotel can only be connected to one BetterSTR account. Email support@betterstr.com and we’ll help you move it.
My rooms are there but no reservations show. Rooms start switched off. Turn them on and click Update Selected; their reservations sync straight away.
“Mews stopped accepting our connection.” The BetterSTR integration was disabled in Mews, or its access token was regenerated. Click Connection on the Mews page and paste the current token.
