Connecting MyTourist to BetterSTR

October 21, 2026 1 views Barry Murphy
Copy your MyTourist API token, connect it to BetterSTR, switch on your rooms and sync bookings automatically with a guidebook and TV welcome for every stay.

Connect your MyTourist account to BetterSTR with the API token from MyTourist. Every room becomes its own BetterSTR property, so each guest gets a personal digital guidebook and each room’s TV welcomes its own guest. The MyTourist integration is new and marked beta: if anything looks wrong, email support@betterstr.com and we’ll look at your account with you.

Before you start

  • You need a MyTourist login that can open Preferences.
  • Each MyTourist company profile (location) has its own API token. A BetterSTR account connects one location.
  • BetterSTR can only be connected to one PMS at a time. If you’re on another integration, disconnect it first.

Step 1: Copy your API token in MyTourist

  1. Log in to MyTourist and open Preferences.
  2. Go to the API page.
  3. Copy the API token. Copy the whole token: it is one long code, often starting with $2y$10$.

The token lets BetterSTR read your rooms and bookings. It isn’t your MyTourist password, and you can regenerate it in MyTourist at any time.

Step 2: Paste it into BetterSTR

  1. In BetterSTR, go to Integrations → MyTourist.
  2. Paste the token into MyTourist API token.
  3. Optional: tick Add each guest’s guide link to the note on their MyTourist booking (see below). You can change this later.
  4. Click Connect MyTourist. BetterSTR checks the token with MyTourist before saving anything.

Step 3: Sync your rooms and switch them on

  1. Click Sync Properties. Your rooms appear over the next few minutes, with the room type’s photos, name, description, size and amenities.
  2. Each room in MyTourist is its own BetterSTR property, so the TV in Room 4 shows the guest staying in Room 4. A room type without separate rooms counts as one property.
  3. New rooms start switched off. Turn on the rooms that have a TV or need a guide, then click Update Selected. Their current and upcoming bookings sync straight away.

You’ll also see a property named after your MyTourist location. It holds bookings MyTourist hasn’t put in a room yet; they move to their room as soon as MyTourist places them. It can be switched off but not deleted.

Add your WiFi and check-in times

MyTourist doesn’t share WiFi details or check-in and check-out times. BetterSTR uses 3pm and 11am until you set your own on each property, or for every property in Property Defaults.

Enter your WiFi name and password once in BetterSTR to power the WiFi QR code. Syncs never overwrite them.

Step 4 (optional): Add the webhook for faster updates

Without it, BetterSTR checks MyTourist for new, changed and cancelled bookings every 10 minutes for stays up to two months ahead, and once an hour for the rest of the year. With the webhook, changes usually arrive within a minute or two.

  1. On the MyTourist page in BetterSTR, copy the address under Faster updates: add our webhook in MyTourist.
  2. In MyTourist, open Settings → Webhooks.
  3. Add the address for each trigger: booking created, edited, cancelled, checked in and checked out.

Keep the address private: it contains your account’s own key. The MyTourist page shows when the last update arrived.

What comes across from MyTourist

  • Bookings with their status, dates, adults and children, the channel and its reference, and the invoice total. Cancelled bookings stop their scheduled guide messages.
  • Guest name, email and phone from the first guest on the booking, or the booker. BetterSTR doesn’t store birthdays, home addresses or your internal booking note.
  • Door codes: the booking’s access code becomes the guest’s door code.
  • Shortcodes such as {{mytourist_room_description}}, {{mytourist_expected_arrival_time}} and {{mytourist_breakfast}} for your guide.

The guide link on the MyTourist booking

Guests get their guide link by your BetterSTR email and SMS rules. If you switch on the option on the MyTourist page, the link is also added to the note on each confirmed, upcoming booking of a switched-on room, on its own line starting BetterSTR guest guide:. The rest of your note is left as it is. It’s off until you turn it on.

Troubleshooting

“MyTourist did not accept that API token.” The token was copied incompletely or has been regenerated. Copy it again from Preferences → API and paste the whole token.

“That token belongs to a different MyTourist company profile.” You’re connected to one location and pasted the token of another. Disconnect MyTourist first (this removes the synced rooms and bookings), then connect the other location.

My rooms are there but no bookings show. Rooms start switched off. Turn them on and click Update Selected; their bookings sync straight away.

A booking change isn’t showing. Changes appear within 10 minutes. To pull them in now, click Sync Reservations on the MyTourist page, or add the webhook (step 4). Full Sync imports the last three years.

“MyTourist stopped accepting our API token.” The token was regenerated in MyTourist. Click Connection on the MyTourist page and paste the new one.
