The BetterSTR Android TV experience speaks your guests’ language — the whole in-room interface is available in 19 languages, and it’s a free feature on every plan. You can set a default language for your property, and guests can switch languages themselves right from the TV; their choice is remembered until they check out.

What gets translated

When a language is active, the TV relabels itself throughout — on both TV themes (Basic and Crisp):

  • The home screen — welcome message, check-in / check-out labels, and every tile and button (Guidebook, Messages, Wi-Fi, Activities, Weather, Store, Apps, Live TV, Movies, TV Shows)
  • The Guidebook — navigation, and your guide content itself where you’ve added a translation (see below)
  • The Wi-Fi screen, including the casting / AirPlay instructions
  • Activities — the browse-and-book screen, with prices already shown in the right currency
  • The Store — item list, buy and payment flow, and the guest’s folio
  • The Live TV channel guide — category filters and the Channel / Now / Next columns

Supported languages

English, plus: 🇦🇵 Arabic, 🇨🇳 Chinese, 🇳🇱 Dutch, 🇫🇮 Finnish, 🇫🇷 French, 🇩🇪 German, 🇮🇱 Hebrew, 🇭🇺 Hungarian, 🇮🇹 Italian, 🇯🇵 Japanese, 🇰🇷 Korean, 🇳🇴 Norwegian, 🇵🇱 Polish, 🇵🇹 Portuguese, 🇷🇺 Russian, 🇸🇰 Slovak, 🇪🇸 Spanish and 🇸🇪 Swedish.

Setting a default language for your property

  1. Go to Members → Property → Property Defaults.
  2. Under Language Settings, turn on Change Default Language.
  3. Pick your language from the Default Language dropdown and save.

Your TVs pick the new default up automatically on their next check-in with our servers — usually within about 15 minutes, no restart needed. The same setting also drives the default language of your online guest guide.

How guests change the language on the TV

In the top-left corner of the home screen there’s a flag showing the current language (🇬🇧 when the TV is in English). Guests select it with the remote and pick their language from the list — every language is shown in its own name (Français, Deutsch, 日本語, …) with its flag, so guests can always find theirs.

The TV relabels itself immediately, and the guest’s choice is remembered until their check-out. At check-out (or when a new reservation begins) the TV automatically returns to your property’s default language, ready for the next guest.

Guidebook content vs. interface

The TV’s interface is translated by BetterSTR automatically. Your guidebook content shows in the guest’s language when you’ve created that translation in the Guide Builder (Manage Translations — one click per language). If a guide translation doesn’t exist yet, the TV keeps the translated interface and simply shows your guide in English, so guests never see an empty guide. Local activities work the same way — if an activity list isn’t available in the guest’s language, it falls back to English rather than showing nothing.
