Your BetterSTR TV box from the BetterSTR shop arrives with everything already installed and locked down for guests. There is no setup tool and no permissions to turn on. Plug it in, connect it to the internet and pair it to a property from your phone. It takes about five minutes.
📦 What’s in the box
The BetterSTR TV box.
A Bluetooth remote (plus any spare remotes you ordered).
A power supply for the plug type you chose at checkout.
You’ll also need a free HDMI port on the TV, an internet connection (Wi–Fi, or an Ethernet cable to your router), and your phone signed in to your BetterSTR account.
🔌 Step 1: Plug it in
Connect the box to the TV with an HDMI cable.
If the router is nearby, plug in an Ethernet cable too. It’s the most reliable connection, and the box skips the Wi–Fi step entirely.
Plug in the power supply. The box switches on by itself.
Switch the TV to the matching HDMI input.
📶 Step 2: Connect to the internet
On Ethernet, the box is already online, so skip to Step 3.
Otherwise the box opens its Connect to Wi–Fi screen on first start. Use the remote to pick your network and type in the password. Use the same Wi–Fi your guests use so the Wi–Fi QR code on the home screen works for them.
Once it’s online the box may spend a minute checking for updates. Leave it running; it carries on by itself.
Remote only works when pointed straight at the box?
It’s running on infra–red until it pairs over Bluetooth. That’s fine for setup. To make it work from anywhere in the room, see re–pair the Bluetooth remote.
🔗 Step 3: Pair it to a property
This video starts at the pairing step. It’s the same on a BetterSTR TV box as on any other TV.

The TV shows a QR code and a device code. Scan the QR code with your phone. It opens the Add Android TV form in BetterSTR with the device already filled in.
No phone handy? Go to Members → Android TV, click Add, and type the device code shown on the TV into Device ID.
Give the TV a clear name (for example “Lounge TV”).
Choose the property it’s in. If the property isn’t set up yet, pick No property yet and assign it later.
Click Save device.
✅ Step 4: Check it’s working
Within about 30 seconds the TV picks up the property. It shows the name of the guest currently checked in, or a Welcome screen if the property is empty. Before guests arrive, check:
Pressing Home on the remote brings the BetterSTR home screen back.
The guidebook opens, with the property information, stay details and videos.
The Wi–Fi QR code and Live TV (if you use it) are there.
Not showing your property after 30 seconds?
