On most TVs the input (HDMI 1, HDMI 2, AV, aerial) is chosen with the Source / Input button on the TV remote — that still works alongside BetterSTR. But if BetterSTR is running on a TV itself (a built-in Google TV / Android TV, not a plug-in box), you can also offer guests a TV / HDMI tile that switches inputs from inside the welcome screen — and you choose exactly which inputs they can pick.
Only on TVs
Input switching is available only when BetterSTR is installed on the TV (so it can see the TV’s HDMI/AV inputs). On a separate media box there are no inputs to switch, so the option doesn’t appear. It’s a Premium feature.
Set which inputs guests can use
- Open the TV in your dashboard (Members → Android TV → Edit).
- Find the TV / HDMI card — it only appears for devices we’ve detected as a TV.
- Leave the toggle on. With no sources ticked, the tile simply opens the last-used input.
- Tick the sources you want to offer (e.g. the guest’s games console on HDMI 2, a Blu-ray player on HDMI 1), and drag to set their order.
- Save. The TV picks it up on its next check-in.
Connected devices are shown by name where the TV reports one over HDMI-CEC (for example “Roku Express”), otherwise by port (HDMI 1, AV…).
What guests see
- One source ticked → tapping the TV / HDMI tile jumps straight to that input.
- Several ticked → guests get a small chooser to pick the input they want.
- None ticked (default) → the tile opens whatever input was last on.
The TV / HDMI tile shows on the home screen like any other tile; you can include or hide it, and set its order, from the Apps card — see Choose & reorder the apps guests see.
A note on the aerial / antenna
The built-in tuner (“Antenna TV”) only works where channels have actually been scanned — in most rentals there’s no aerial connected, so there’s nothing to show. For guests, the useful sources are usually the HDMI inputs their own devices are plugged into.
Guests using the remote instead
Guests can always change source the normal way — the Source / Input button on the TV remote — even while the BetterSTR welcome screen is showing. The TV / HDMI tile is just a friendlier, on-screen way to do it that you control.
