Curate a Live TV / IPTV channel list for guests

September 12, 2026 40 views Barry Murphy
Browse a catalog of free IPTV channels, preview them, and drag your favourites into a list for all guides, one property, or a tagged group.

Instead of hunting down a Live TV / IPTV playlist URL yourself, you can now browse a ready-made catalog of thousands of free channels — search by name, filter by category or country, preview a channel before you commit to it, and drag your favourites straight into your guests’ list.

Turn on Live TV for a device

  1. Open your device in the dashboard (Members → Android TV → Edit).
  2. Turn on “Live TV / IPTV channels”.
  3. Set the source to “My BetterSTR channels”.
  4. Click “Curate My Channels…” to open the channel picker.

Already have your own IPTV provider? Choosing “Custom playlist URL” instead lets you paste in an existing M3U/M3U8 link, exactly as before.

Find and add channels

The picker opens with the full channel catalog on one side and your list on the other:

  • Search by channel name, or narrow things down with the category pills (News, Sports, Movies, Kids, and more) and the country filter.
  • Click the play icon on any channel to preview it live before deciding whether to add it — handy since not every stream on a public catalog is reliable.
  • Click +, or simply drag a channel across, to add it to your list.
  • Within your list, drag to reorder — that’s the order guests will see the channels on the TV.

Manage separate lists per property or tag

The channel picker in the device editor manages your global list — the channels shown on every one of your guides. For finer control, open “Advanced: per-property & per-tag lists” at the bottom of the picker, where a “Show & add channels for” dropdown lets you switch between:

  • All guides (global) — shown everywhere.
  • One property — a list just for that property’s guides.
  • Properties tagged… — a list shared by every property with a given tag.

Each scope keeps its own separate list. Every property and tag in the dropdown shows a channel count next to its name, so you can tell at a glance which lists already have channels curated without opening each one.

Add a custom channel

Have a private stream that isn’t in the catalog? Click “Add custom channel…” on the picker to add it by name and stream URL, alongside the channels you’ve pulled from the catalog. It can be reordered and previewed the same way.

A channel not playing?

Some public streams are geo-restricted or go offline without notice — that’s why the picker lets you preview a channel before adding it. If a channel you’ve already added stops working, just remove it and pick a replacement.
