BetterSTR TV Box: Remote Not Working (Re-pair the Bluetooth Remote)

July 9, 2026 33 views Barry Murphy
If your BetterSTR TV Box remote only responds when pointed straight at the box, it has dropped back to Infra-Red. Here is how to re-pair it over Bluetooth so it works from any angle.

If the remote on your BetterSTR TV Box seems unreliable — it only responds when you point it straight at the box, or it stops working the moment something (a hand, a shelf, a plant) gets between the remote and the box — the remote has quietly dropped back to Infra-Red (IR) mode. IR needs direct line of sight, exactly like an old TV remote.

The remote is designed to work over Bluetooth, which works from any angle and doesn’t need line of sight. Sometimes, after a power cut or when the batteries are first fitted, the remote pairs but the Bluetooth connection doesn’t fully take — so it falls back to IR. Re-pairing it fixes this. It only takes a minute.

Quick test: is it running on Infra-Red?

Point the remote directly at the TV box and press a button — it works. Now put your hand over the front of the remote (or aim it away from the box) and press again.

If it stops working when the line of sight is blocked, it’s on Infra-Red and needs re-pairing over Bluetooth. If it keeps working from any angle, Bluetooth is already connected and nothing needs changing.

Re-pair the remote over Bluetooth

  1. On the TV, open Settings → Remotes & Accessories.
  2. Select the existing “BT Remote” in the list and choose Unpair (or Forget) to remove it.
  3. Choose Pair accessory (or Add accessory) so the TV begins Scanning.
  4. Once it says Scanning, put the remote into pairing mode: press and hold the OK button and the Volume – (volume down) button at the same time until the TV shows the remote as paired.
  5. When “BT Remote” appears, select it to finish pairing.

Once it’s paired over Bluetooth, run the quick test above again — the remote should now work from any angle, even with the front covered. You’re done.

Still not working?

If the remote won’t enter pairing mode or the TV never finds it during scanning, try fresh batteries first — a weak battery is the most common cause of a remote that won’t pair. Then repeat the steps above.

If it still won’t connect, get in touch with BetterSTR support and we’ll help you sort it out.
