Review Request Notifications automatically send a follow-up message to guests who leave positive reviews on platforms like Airbnb or Booking.com, asking them to also leave a review on Google, Trustpilot, TripAdvisor, or any other review platform you choose.

Why This Matters: Guests who have just left a 5-star review are in the perfect mindset to leave another positive review elsewhere. Catching them at this moment significantly increases your chances of building your reputation across multiple platforms.

 

How It Works

  1. Reviews Sync Automatically - When a guest leaves a review on Airbnb, Booking.com, or other connected platforms, it syncs to BetterSTR automatically via your property management integration.
  2. Rating Filter Applied - You set a minimum rating threshold (e.g., 4+ stars). Only reviews meeting this threshold trigger a notification.
  3. Notification Sent - An SMS or Email message is sent to the guest with your customized template and review link.

 

Setting Up Review Request Notifications

 

Step 1: Configure Your External Review URL

First, you need to set up your external review platform URL for each property (or set a default for all properties).

  1. Go to Properties in your dashboard
  2. Click Edit on a property
  3. Scroll to External Review Requests section
  4. Select your review platform (Google, Trustpilot, TripAdvisor, or Other)
  5. Enter your review URL (e.g., your Google review link)
  6. Check Enable Review Notifications
  7. Save your settings
Tip: To get your Google review link, search for your business on Google, click "Write a review", and copy the URL. Or use the Google Place ID Finder to create a direct link.

 

Step 2: Create a Notification Rule

  1. Go to Notifications in your dashboard
  2. Click the Rules tab
  3. Click Create Notification Rule
  4. Set the following:
    • Event: New Review
    • Rating: >= 4 stars (or your preferred threshold)
    • Transport: SMS or Email
    • Recipient: Guest
  5. Customize your message template using available variables
  6. Save the rule

Best Practices

  • Set appropriate thresholds - Only request external reviews from guests who left 4+ stars to maintain quality
  • Keep messages personal - Use the guest's first name and property name for a personal touch
  • Be grateful - Always thank them for the original review first
  • Make it easy - Include a direct link that takes them straight to the review form
  • Don't over-request - One follow-up is enough; don't send multiple reminders
