Setting Up Auto Top-Up for SMS Credits

February 1, 2026 20 views Barry Murphy
Configure automatic balance replenishment to never run out of SMS credits.

Auto Top-Up automatically adds funds to your account when your balance falls below a threshold. This ensures you never miss sending an important message to guests or cleaners.

Why Use Auto Top-Up?

  • Never interrupt guest communication due to low balance
  • Automated cleaner notifications continue without manual intervention
  • Set it once and forget about balance management
  • Customizable thresholds and amounts

Prerequisites

Before enabling Auto Top-Up, you need:

  • At least one saved payment method
  • A default payment method set

Enabling Auto Top-Up

  1. Go to Billing & Credits
  2. Click Payment Methods
  3. Find the Auto Top-Up section
  4. Toggle the switch to On

Configuring Settings

Threshold Amount

The balance level that triggers auto top-up.

  • Range: $1 to $100
  • Default: $2.00
  • Recommendation: Set slightly higher than your typical daily SMS cost

Top-Up Amount

How much to add when triggered.

  • Range: $10 to $500
  • Default: $10.00
  • Recommendation: Choose an amount that covers at least a week of typical usage

Payment Method

Select which saved card to charge. Your default payment method is used unless you specify another.

How It Works

  1. Before sending an SMS, the system checks your balance
  2. If balance is below your threshold, auto top-up triggers
  3. Your selected card is charged the top-up amount
  4. Funds are added immediately
  5. The SMS sends normally

Example Configuration

Threshold: $5.00
Top-Up Amount: $25.00
Result: When balance drops below $5, $25 is automatically added.

Disabling Auto Top-Up

To turn off auto top-up:

  1. Go to Payment Methods
  2. Toggle the Auto Top-Up switch to Off

When disabled, you will need to manually add funds when your balance runs low.

Monitoring Top-Ups

All auto top-up transactions appear in your Transaction History with:

  • Transaction type: Credit
  • Reference indicating auto top-up
  • Amount added
  • Date and time

Failed Top-Ups

If an auto top-up fails (e.g., expired card, insufficient funds on card):

  • You will receive a notification
  • The SMS will not send
  • Update your payment method and retry

Best Practices

Set Appropriate Thresholds

Consider your SMS volume:

  • Low volume (few messages/week): $2-5 threshold
  • Medium volume (daily messages): $10-20 threshold
  • High volume (multiple daily): $25-50 threshold

Choose Sensible Top-Up Amounts

Balance convenience with control:

  • Smaller amounts ($10-25): More control, more frequent charges
  • Larger amounts ($50-100): Fewer charges, bigger buffer

Keep Payment Methods Current

Update card details before expiration to avoid failed top-ups.
