BetterSTR WiFi lets you control what guest details are required to access WiFi. Set global defaults across all properties or override them per property, choosing fields like name, email, phone, and marketing consent.

How Settings Work

Setting Hierarchy

  1. Default Settings apply to all properties unless overridden.

  2. Property-Specific Settings override defaults for individual properties.

  3. Changes take effect immediately for new guest connections.

Phone Field Logic

  1. Decide if you want to show the phone field at all.

  2. If shown, choose required or optional.

  3. If hidden, it is automatically not required.

Marketing Consent Options

  • Optional: Guests can access WiFi whether they agree or not.

  • Required: Guests must check the marketing box to access WiFi.

  • GDPR compliant as guests explicitly consent in exchange for WiFi service.

Best Practices

For Vacation Rentals

  • Keep requirements minimal (just email).

  • Make marketing optional to reduce friction.

  • Consider phone optional for emergencies.

For High-End Properties

  • Require name and email for security.

  • Include phone for concierge services.

  • Keep marketing optional for premium experience.

For Budget Properties

  • Require email and marketing consent.

  • Use WiFi as incentive for marketing opt-in.

  • Consider hiding phone field to simplify.

Implementation Tips

  1. Start Simple: Begin with minimal requirements.

  2. Test Guest Flow: Try the process yourself.

  3. Monitor Completion Rates: Reduce requirements if guests abandon forms.

  4. Property-Specific Needs: Luxury vs quick-turnover may differ.

  5. Seasonal Adjustments: Reduce requirements during peak season.
