Guests see the verification modal when they access your digital guidebook link. They must complete all required verification steps before they can view the full guidebook content. This typically happens when you send them the guidebook link before check-in.

You can choose between "blocked" mode (guest cannot access guidebook at all) or "limited" mode (guest sees a limited version of the guidebook). This gives you flexibility - you might use blocked mode for properties that require verification and limited mode for situations where verification is preferred but optional.

Identity verification is powered by Didit, a professional identity verification service. Guests take a photo of their government-issued ID (passport, driver's license, etc.) and then take a live selfie. AI compares the photos to ensure they match and extracts information from the ID like name, date of birth, and document number.

Security deposits are pre-authorized (not charged) on the guest's card for 7 days. If you don't claim any damages within that period, the hold is automatically released. If you need to claim damages, you can capture all or part of the held amount through the BetterSTR dashboard.

Yes, security deposits require Stripe Connect. You'll connect your Stripe account to BetterSTR (the same account you use for upsell products). Deposit holds and captures go directly to your Stripe account with standard Stripe processing fees.

Yes. Verification data is encrypted and stored securely. ID images are stored for 30 days to allow you to review verification results, then automatically deleted. Phone numbers and acceptance records are retained longer for your reference. We follow GDPR guidelines for data protection.
